Who We Are

J’ Parle’ Artist Group Incorporated (JAG Inc.) is a Tulsa-based nonprofit organization that champions BIPOC creatives of all disciplines. JAG Inc.’s mission is to create platforms for our city’s thought leaders to showcase their natural creative abilities. By being intentional with cultivating placemaking activities of distinct types, we provide opportunities for the BIPOC community of this city to see themselves and to be seen through the medium of creativity.

As the world continues to mine for talent via the coasts of the continental United States, JAG Inc. is here to remind them that Tulsa’s creative community should be listed as one of the destinations to explore unique talents and perspectives.

Our Work

Placemaking

Through four signature shows occurring quarterly, we highlight artists from Tulsa, Oklahoma City, and regional acts from Arkansas, Texas, Kansas, and Missouri. These showcases include poetry, live music, dance, comedy, and live visual paintings, providing BIPOC artists with paid opportunities to present their crafts. They foster community engagement, visibility, and cultural celebration, supporting health equity by enhancing community cohesion and cultural identity. By creating spaces for fellowship and comradery, they promote mental well-being and social support networks.

(B) Light

Inspired by the Beat the Blight Project in Newark, NJ, (B)Light transforms blighted properties in Tulsa into public art spaces. This initiative enhances community aesthetics and property values, while providing representation and inspiration for BIPOC residents. By turning the city into a canvas, (B)Light supports health equity through improved neighborhood environments and increased community pride, fostering a sense of belonging and positive identity among residents.

Pärlä Creative Festival

This eight-day festival champions Black creativity and serves as a placemaking event, featuring dance, theater, film festivals, culinary arts, wellness activities, and more. It highlights Tulsa's diverse artistic talents, promoting community engagement and cultural awareness. The festival supports health equity by providing platforms for BIPOC artists and fostering inclusive spaces that encourage community interaction and cultural enrichment.

Community Garden

In partnership with Black Wall Street Market, this community garden teaches participants to grow, consume, and sell produce. It offers economic opportunities for youth and promotes healthy eating habits. By hosting pop-up concerts and farmers markets at (B)Light homes and other spaces, the garden initiative supports health equity by improving access to fresh food and encouraging positive health behaviors.

En Chante’

An open-air gallery at the historic “Steps to Nowhere,” this public art display is free and features works by local artists. It provides visibility for artists and beautifies the community without financial barriers. En Chante’ supports health equity by making art accessible to all, fostering community pride, and enhancing public spaces with culturally relevant visual art.

Scholarship Fund

The scholarship fund includes the Adriuna Rae Cole Awards for the Arts for high school seniors and a second scholarship for nontraditional students and working adults. It supports continuing education in both degree and certificate programs. By providing educational opportunities, the scholarship fund promotes health equity through economic mobility and lifelong learning, helping individuals improve their circumstances.

After School Program

This program mentors middle and high school students in creative pursuits such as writing, songwriting, studio engineering, and videography. It offers youth a chance to explore media and music, fostering creativity and skill development. The program supports health equity by providing educational and creative opportunities, promoting positive youth development and future career pathways.

J’Parle’ Literary Magazine

A literary magazine featuring poetry, photography, and visual art from around the world. Primarily housed online, with some printed versions, it offers a platform for diverse artistic expression. The magazine supports health equity by amplifying diverse voices and perspectives, promoting cultural exchange and understanding.
